1968 Plymouth GTX 440/ 4 speed project: Last driven in 1983, garaged since. Ownership history from 1981 to present. Dark green metallic with black interior and black vinyl top. Original motor/trans/rear long gone, no fender tag, no build sheet. VIN on dash and body panels match.
Original P/S, manual drum brake, console car, but is now manual steering. Dealer installed rear window defogger. Very solid car: super clean underside, clean trunk floor and interior. Perfect cowl, good inner and outer wheelhouses, very good quarter extensions. Rocker panels are rust free, but they were used as jacking points and are crushed in because of this: a perfect used pair comes with the car. The Dutchman panel and roof are nice and clean. Original trunk lid has a large shallow dent in the rear: a perfect repleacement included with the car. Car comes with a complete nose: a 1969 hood and a pair of solid, straight 1968 fenders. Drivers door is not the original and it has some dents but no rust. Another 1968 drivers door, perfect clean piece, included as well. Original passenger door is nice and clean. All of the replacement sheetmetal listed (hood/fenders/trunk/driver’s door) all are in their original paint- not used parts in layers of paint, hiding damage or rust. The quarters have some rust and dents and there is some rear window channel rust: a pair of the AMD full quarters would take care of this.
Motor is a 1970 440HP: 11:1 pistons, six pack bottom end, fresh heads (stone stock), original 1968 intake with a new cam (224/234, .465/.488) and adjustable valvetrain. The short block has very little use but last ran in 1983. Exhaust manifolds, radiator, carburetor and air cleaner are all missing.
Trans is a rebuilt 23 spline 4 speed with Hurst linkage, with a correct 11” Bellhousing and inspection cover.
The rear is a correct 1968 3:54 Dana mounted via new (never driven on) Super Stock springs: the original springs also come with the car. Front suspension was rebuilt by the prior owner after the car was taken off the road.
For the interior components, it has a good dash with postage stamp tach: radio not cut (original AM radio still in place), no cracks in dash pad but some minor imperfections. Comes with a pair of 1969 bucket seats: nice shape with original upholstery, seat tracks, nice headrests, seat backs and hinge covers. This is an original console equipped car and it comes with an original 4 speed console (minor crack in rear like they all do).
Car is a disassembled roller with a drivetrain installed: no interior, no wiring, no brake/fuel lines, no front or rear glass currently installed. All items removed are tagged/labeled and carefully boxed and everything disassembled was documented in pictures.
Car also comes with the following parts:
- Grill w/cage-nice with original paint.
- One set Metro repro grille cage trim
- One restored set of grille cage trim but upper piece still has some waves
- 1 pr show restored headlamp bezels
- 1968 440 HP Standard Bore block, steel crank, set of LY Rods
- 1 set A/B&E Reproduction 1968 4 speed console top plates (4 pieces)
- 1969/70 4 speed console top plates
This is an excellent project- very clean, very solid- not something rusted and pitted everywhere. It has been off the road in a garage longer than it was ever on the road (1983-present: 26 years).
