1969 Superbird Prototype

This is giving me "66 charger daytona prototype" vibes.

THAT was a big hoax

There is a story about the mule bird in the Aero section of dodgecharger.com

It’s been some time since I’ve seen any additional input to the thread. It’s the real deal.

As far as its whereabouts? Most likely scrapped out when they were done with it.

Lastly, look for that runner with a CLAY rear window plug in it!

Did anyone else notice that the 69 Super bird prototype has a Super bird wing upright on the drivers side and a Daytona upright on the passenger's side. I'm guessing that because the Plymouth doesn't have the fastback roofline of the Charger that they added more rake and width to the uprights to make the car appear more aerodynamic looking.

I was involved with the replica of this car.
that front tube bumper,
i vaguely recall this car,was this the one the corvette shop built?
and then the guy was running around telling everyone it was a real one but the vin was a regular charger?

No that was the purple one. Greg as stated above found those photographs at Chrysler, they were taken at Hamtramak if I remember correctly.

Actually, got a ton of stuff from a guy at a flea market.
He got them from an estate sale.
I’d guess it was an old Chrysler retiree that died.

The usual thing: kids didn’t care so sell it off!!!!!

Great score Greg, that car would have remained unknown if you had not found those pictures and the poster. There are a lot of similarities between this car and the purple car, which leads me to believe that there was some factory involvement in them, possibly as one off customs similar to the Rapid transit customs. If not then the purple car would be considered the first known Daytona clone, not used on a racetrack.

The Watermelon car pics were in a folder that said:
“McCurrys Daytona”

The guy kept the folder. This was in the early 90s. No camera phone!!!!!!!!!!

there was an advert. for the 70 Daytona Charger ?
or was that one BS too ?
it has no side scoops like the 70 Charger R/T's
more like the Charger 500's
