1970 air grabber air cleaner question

In 1969 the air-grabber air cleaners on 440 4bls used the oval air filter and oval top and in 1970 the 440 4bls went to a similiar style baseplate but instead used a smaller round air cleaner and round top. My question is can a person put the oval style air filter and top in place of the round air filter and top but still using the 70 440 4bl baseplate? From pictures i have seen of the baseplates it looks like that is possible.

No it will not work. #1 How are you going to secure the lid?

#2 the 69 oval Filter On a 70 base will make the lid too high, it doesn’t have a recessed are to sit in.

I put a 6 pack on my 70 Bee and it did have the original round top for the 383 ramcharger

I used a 69 4 bbl oval cleaner with coyote duster lid in a 70 RR with N96 hood for many years. I sold the OEM 69 and now run it with a repro 1970 cleaner, RB block.
