Hey guys. I have a 70 charger with floor shift. I recently swapped the 318/904 for a 440/727. The question I have is in regards to the linkage/steering lock out set up on this particular year. It is unusual. It appears linkage goes from column, to a bracket on the body, over to the trans. I don't think it was ever installed correctly before the swap so I really don't know how it should go. anyone have a clue here? my main concern was the the linkage doesn't really attach to anything on the trans end. the linkage rod goes through a bracket on the trans, but that is all. I feel like a piece is missing from the linkage rod to the trans or something. The steering lock still works with the key too, so maybe this set up is not even for the steering lock??? HELP PLEASE:thinker:

You are describing the shift linkage. The only steering interlock that I am aware of is a plate in the column, under the steering wheel.

Get your Shop Manual here; LOTS of good info and pictures:

The manual is not the exact one, but the representations should be real close. Most assemblies are identical too.

All 70 B-Bodies, 3-speed, 4-speed or automatic trans had an interlock, lockout system to turn the column when in park on an auto or reverse on a 3 or 4-speed. 904 and 727 do use some different pieces and the 3 & 4-speed is also different. If your key is working with-out the system hooked up it is probably because your column housing is in the alignment position to be able to remove it and will usually remain there unless you turn it manually. Post up a pic of what linkage you have and we can tell you what pieces you are missing or PM me i have those pieces available
