How are these supposed to fit near the bottom? There’s a huge gap between the tail panel and extension is this just bad fitment if aftermarket parts or body panel placement?

The extensions don't fit "tight" up against the body, but that gap looks pretty large. On my 70 Road Runner, the gap is maybe 1/4" (guestimate). I'm not sure what to tell you. Hopefully someone else here can help.

Okay thanks that’s good to know they aren’t supposed to fit tight. It’s very hard to find a picture of these up close online. I think the passenger side may fit alright within the quarter inch when it’s all tightened with the gasket but for some reason the driver side is just way off.

On my 70 Road Runner, I have similar gap that PurpleBeeper described, less than a 1/4 inch at very bottom. My car still has factory quarters on it. So no they wern't perfectly tight. I'll trim a bit of quarter at the top of bumper area to close the gap some on mine and then seam seal the rest. On yours you may want to add a tab of sheet metal to close it up.

First off........ is there a trunklid on this car? If not, you need to find or get the one you are putting on the car permanently. Has the pass side quarter been replaced? The drivers has been replaced from what I see. Back to the trunklid..... once mounted on the car, you need to be checking side trunklid lid gaps between the top of quarter edges. It looks in your pics the the rear quarter was welded on to far to the rear. It can be fixed, but it will take some serious metal fab and welding.

I have a 70 Satellite 4dr here, and those end caps do fit nice and snugg all around the quarter.

I do have the trunk lid mounted and both quarter panels are factory besides a lower patch on each side below the light. Here a picture of the top view of the driver side and it really matches fairly well the rest of the way around.
