Hey guys!

I am looking at a 1970 roadrunner to buy only seen pictures so far and talked to the owner. I am looking at advice if I should pursue the car or not based on the following details. It has a roadrunner Dash VIN number. There is no fender tag. The owner who I can tell just bought a mopar to buy one didn’t even know about the body numbers or clones. He claims there is no radiator support number or trunk lip number that he can find. I am caustious on pursuing the car because someone could hve possibly swapped out the dash and just put a RR vin on it. The owner doesn’t understand without any of these numbers it affects the value of it. Just wondering what other people would think of the situation. I am looking for a car to be a driver and not a numbers matching super show car.

The trunk lip numbers I did not find on my car until I pulled up the trunk seal. The support numbers are somewhat covered by the radiator. Hard to see but you can see them usually.

How often do the numbers get painted over and can’t see them? I know it happened on one of our challengers. If the support or that side of the car where the trunk was got damaged then those number could be gone right ?

Pics show a 6 barrel car ? You're looking to pay for a 6-v car as a "driver" per se ? Get an expert to inspect it.

I agree that any car must be seen in person.
Car looks like it's got some good options. Too bad the tag is gone.

Looks like a pretty nice car. I would never buy a car without being able to check it out myself first. I am not a numbers guy. So a missing fender tag or n.o.m. or drivetrain doesn't bother me but does effect prices.

Take someone with that knows what they are looking for. Listen to what they say about the car. They wont be all googly eyed because they aint buying the car. Much more objective view if you havent bought many cars.

so the dude has a V code 4 speed car and know nothing about it?

The Road Runner decal is not suppose to be on the inside of the drivers door. The Road Runner decals on the front fenders are in the wrong location. It is missing the "Road Runner"emblems on the quarter scoops, Black paint on the hood has the wrong finish. If these small details are wrong it would make me think what else is wrong with it

Big difference between a 6bbl bird and a bird with a 6bbl.

It is not an original 6 pack car but yes 100% has a six pack. I am planning on seeing the car in person and know what I’m looking for. I just don’t want to waste my time going if there is no numbers to prove it’s an actual roadrunner. I was just looking for peoples opinions if they think it’s fishy and if it’s worth driving 7 hrs to go check it out. Really appreciate all the comments guys thanks!

It’s not that I’m a numbers I could care less about numbers matching engine and all that. Since there is no fender tag I care about the body numbers matching to prove it’s an actually roadrunner and not a clone and someone switched the dash and bought a roadrunner VIN to put in it.

That seems to be a issue with old muscle cars. Everyone is willing to build a clone or wannabe and they dont seem to have a problem in asking a rare car price .. To me not worth it. That would be someone elses issue.

Sounds like you answered your question, no body numbers is a show stopper for you.

Post a request for someone closer than 7 hrs to check the car out for you. Some guys with a bit of free time really enjoy that.

You never mentioned what the asking price for the car is. If you don't care about numbers matching, then if the price is right and the car is built well, then what does it matter if it was a renumbered car, as long as it has a legit title? It might or might not be a real RR, but how do you know? If it was a 440- 6pack, 4 speed air grabber car with no rust, good bodywork and paint for a good price, I would jump on it !!!

Yep. Even if not a "real" Roadrunner, or not a V code, IF you can buy it at a good price, GET IT!
I am very happy my 70 V-Code Roadrunner is a real V-Code, and I'm happy it has a 71 440 in it. That way I could afford to buy it at the $43k range (they were asking $59k) and I can beat the crap out of it without worrying about blowing a #s matching motor.
Lots of fun, and it ALWAYS will be a real V-Code Roadrunner.

He’s asking 38,000$ for the car. No I don’t care about engine numbers matching. I do care about if it’s a satellite and not a RR. I would just hate to always question if it was a true RR. Dash VIN and title is a RR VIN but as we all know that doesn’t mean it’s a true RR. That’s how people these days make big money getting satellites and putting RR VIN in them. Selling them to people that have no idea.
