Ex–Sam-Posey-Family-Owned 1970 Plymouth Superbird 4-Speed

This 1970 Plymouth Superbird was purchased near Pawling, New York, as a used car in June 1971 by Mary J.P. Moore—the mother of racing driver and and broadcast journalist Sam Posey—and she kept the car until her death in 2010. Sam Posey then sold the vehicle to the current owner and his late brother, and the car was subsequently disassembled and refreshed. The Superbird is one of 1,920 examples produced for a single model year, and it is powered by a 440ci Super Commando V8 linked with a four-speed manual transmission. Finished in Vitamic C Orange with a black vinyl roof over black vinyl upholstery, the vehicle features includes a nose cone, flip-up headlamps, a rear wing, Rallye 15″ wheels, power steering, power-assisted front disc brakes, a Hurst pistol-grip shifter, a “tic-toc” tachometer, and an AM radio. Now showing 29k miles, this Superbird is offered by the seller on behalf of the late owner’s brother with documentation from the ownership of Posey’s family, magazine articles featuring the car, refurbishment photos, manufacturer’s literature, a copy of its broadcast sheet, Connecticut Vehicle Inspection Reports from the 1980s and 1990s, service records, and Connecticut registration.
