Hi, I am going to go look at a '71 Charger SE that is for sale locally and I just thought I would ask here if there is anything particular I need to be watchful about in regard to this car. Here are some pictures of the car:

It has a 383 with a 4-barrel carb, runs and drives.

The owner said that there is some rust on all 4 quarter panels, behind each wheel, the passenger side grill insert is missing, and the interior is pretty beat up.

So, if you could help me out that would be great. Also what do you think would be a fair offer on this car? He is asking 3000

check the frame rails behind the rear wheels

i guess he uses the "gone in 60 seconds" ignition system huh? make sure it has a clear title and the VIN, fender tag, drivers side door, and radiator core support match... the whole tore apart steering column just makes me think the worse in this situation.

I would offer $2300 cash and see if he bites.. worst he could say is no.

Buy the car. It doesn't look too bad from the pictures. Besides, its 40 yrs old. Rust and other slight damage is to be expected. So what if the interior is trashed, you can restore the interior. It has a 383 in it and it runs, that's good. Too many times we want something for nothing.

I learned this the hard way when a guy was selling a 71 demon for $300. He said that I and everyone else asked if it was a 4spd car, if it had a 340 in it, if it ran and drove, it it was in good condition so on and so on. The guy told me that everybody wants something for nothing, hell it was a 71 Demon!! So what if it had a slant six and auto and had been sitting for 20 yrs. He was only asking $300.

I say all this just to say that its not everyday that you find a 1971 muscle car in decent condition for $r grand. Might he take less for it? Yes he might, but don't try to get something for nothing. Pay the man and enjoy your car because if you don't, someone else will.

is that the original 383,if so that is a plus. there was not many chargers that yr that came with a 383. yeah i would offer him 2300-2500.

there were only 196 71 chargers with a 383 4bbl built for usa specs. 109 4-speeds and 87 automatics.
