Hi Guys,

So I have decided to swap out the 440 Mag attached the to 727 tranny I got in my 72. Original motor was 383... bought it with the 440.
I need help from anyone who has done a swap before. I was leaning more towards a newer engine, been looking at a Viper motor, or a 5.7 Hemi. Then I was told to also look into LS2 or LS3... Has anyone done any swaps, if so, can you post pix and tell me what you did, what the costs was and so fourth.

All I was is a swap, nothing to complicated... Any help will be much much appreciated guys!

Thanks.. and I am in Sacramento, CA

Okay....

First off...
You say you want an easy swap...

1. A Viper motor swap would require BIG BUCKS... for the aluminum V-10 and the install. You have that kind of money?
2. 5.7 Hemi...you ready for that MOD? I dont think so...again, money for the Hemi and install.
3. If you install a LS2 or LS3...get off this forum man....It's a MOPAR forum, Your talking to the wrong people

Do the 440 Mopar swap.
Lots of info on this forum for this install.
It is easy to do, remove one, install the other.

Do your research...a fellow forum member has a saying:
"fill your library before you fill your garage"

I appreciate it man... I mean no disrespect. I own Mopars, got this and a 98 GTS. I also have a Grand sport so I like my cars.
I am just trying to figure out who has done what. But I don't want a 440 anymore, I am done with that.... After I take my setup out, anyone who is willing to can come pick it up and take it away... I have spent too much time and money on that 440, its a money hog.

I appreciate it but Yes I do have the money for the swap, I just wanted to know from you folks who has done what before I do anything.

Why would you consider the 5.7 hemi over the 440? just curious

As for the LS or the V10, I would hope your ability to fabricate, mock-up and weld are close to 100% as even the pro's f%$#-it-up. I just wouldn't want to see you get in over your head and give up on your car. just so you know I'm not being a smart a$$, I wouldn't attempt it myself as I cant weld worth $hit. lol

There's an entire section of the forum dedicated to New Hemi Engine Swap's so that's a good place to start. I'm lost to though as to what you expect out of any other motor that the 440 won't give you? You could do a complete rebuild with fuel injection for a lot less money, time and trouble. Or do what I did and but a crate motor (I bought a 440 stroked to 522) You'd still be ahead of the game

Oh and agree with ski! Don't consider swapping in anything non-mopar... it's just not right!

Cool man,
It's great to "PLAN" and question and to "think-out" a plausible course of action.

First off...PLEASE...keep it MOPAR.
The MOPAR 440 engine swap is the most "simple"
It's like a "Remove and Replace"

I'm pretty sure the motor mounts need to be changed...
Also, the "Cast" crank has a different hole set-up for the flex plate as opposed to the "Steel" crank...

Thanks all. The 440 in mine is shitty. Had taken it to a shop and they F*&& it up even more. I don't think I want to rebuild that motor, its a good motor but just not enough power. I want to be somewhere in the 400+ range.

Anyways, for a crate motor, complete set from harness to auto tranny, do you guys have a link for me?

HYRDGOON, you mentioned you got a crate, can you send me a link to what you got and where? If I knew, I wouldn't ask yall :)
And no you guys none of yall are smartass man, no disrespect..I appreciate everyones views.. because I need yalls help :)

Anyway....
1. Take your time...do your research... (on this site)
2. check out "Forum team mate" HT413s thread ; My BUDGET 451 build... finally..

A lot of good info on the 440 build-up
Im following this thread/build and doing a 440 right now.

:happy1::happy1::happy1: I cant wait but I dont have a cold beverage

Here Ya go Viper http://www.cmengines.com/Engines/Pe...rformanceStreetEngines/tabid/117/Default.aspx

I have the 522/ 525hp package for 7 grand... was closer to 8 because I bought the ignition and carb it was dyno'd with and aftermarket valve covers. Made 527hp and 660 ft lbs torque @ peak and avg'd 625 lbs through the whole torque curve. If you do the rebuild yourself you could get away much cheaper but if you want to order something proven and have it dropped on your doorstep that will bolt right in this is a good option

Just for info the 383 was not produced in 72 would have been a 400. Sounds like you really got taken on the 440. 400+ hp should not have been that much of a problem. Got any idea's as to what has been done to it? Hate to see you scrap it.
