Looking for where my A833 is leaking its oil yesterday and found the transmission pad where info is stamped. But found the surface not smooth like I expected. See pic. Has anyone seen a rough surface on this area like this one? Also I did not see any VIN related info. I assume the numbers found relate to the julian date but cant say for sure.

I found the following on the net telling what the numbers mean. Turns out my tranny was built in Nov. 1972.

"During 1968 production, a raised pad was added to the passenger side of the transmission with a series of numbers stamped into it. The second line starts with PP833 and a four-digit code that indicates the month, day and year of production, based on a 10,000-day calendar. Three additional digits tell the transmission's production sequence."
