My project is well under way (need to finish the interior, and repaint the car) and i've gotten to the bumpers both of which have the big rubber bumper guards which i'm not a fan of,is there any way for me to take them off? If not i guess it's fine but i love the way they look without the guards the bumpers look a lot cleaner and distinguishes it from all the satellites out there. I'm also looking to put roll down rear windows in so i no longer have the window pillars, has anybody done this on their b body? and if so can i use the stock interior panels with the window crank? I realized this after seeing this awesome 74

Very cool video!! I thought the 73 and 74 were pretty much alike. I cant say anything about the back window, i have a 73 Satellite but the back windows wind down on it, the bumper guards have a bolt that goes through the bumper is all on mine. Look behind the bumper and you should see them. Look slow and close at the video and you'll see where they took the guards off the front and replaced them with 2 carriage bolts.. You know where they are so you'll see them in the video.. Good luck...

If you are planning to rechrome your bumper, you can do what I am planning to do, which is to plug weld those suckers and tack the other carriage bolts on so that I have a completely smooth bumped. Shouldn't be too hard if you have a MIG and a decent grinder.

You can just un-bolt them, I took those hideous weights off of my 73' first thing, and plugged the holes with bumper bolts readily available on eBay or elsewhere.

Theres a small discussion elsewhere about the wind down back windows and the fixed windows, can you shed some light on any of this? Mine is the 73 Satellite and i have wind down, Another guy has a 73 RR and there fixed in it.. Satty verses RR thing? Im curious now as why, i thought the 74 was about the same as 73, and one guy has a 74 RR with fixed ones. Maybe they came either-or.. Just curious if you might know... Like the idea welding/plugging bolt holes, if there being re-chromed and you don't want them, great idea..

If you're looking to put in roll down windows, I do have all the parts from a Satellite. I sent you a PM.

Not planning on rechroming anything until the car is finished, and as awesome as the welding them and smooting them sounds i'll just stick to plain chrome carriage bolts for now

I don't know what mother mopar was thinking when they did it, the rr looks A LOT better with the rear windows down in my opinion at least, and i think it was just the difference between sattys and roadrunners maybe because satellites were more family oriented? but i'm going to try to do the bumper guards today if i can pull the front one out of the pile of crap its under, thanks everyone for the help

Just pulled the rubber guards off and of guess what.................there's rot from where they were. So now i'm at a crossroads as to whether or not i should paint the bumper along with the car but then i would have a chrome rear bumper.

This may be a bit out there but has anybody dealt with chrome powdercoating? I'm doing a bit of research on it now,but it seems like i have 3 choices, paint, powdercoat,or rechrome the bumpers and according to what i'm reading dechroming a bumper is pretty hazardous, so i'm leaning towards either powdercoating them black,or chrome

I took mine off and there was a bunch of crud under there too. But all it took is a wash, time and mothers and more mothers and more mothers.

I'm on my third tub of that stuff so far

I have a few things powdered chrome, in particular my intake manifold has that Endurashine from Eddy. It's alright for stuff like an intake or engine bay parts, but I'd never want to powder a bumper...it doesn't have nearly the same luster or reflection. Chroming is the way to go. I would just ship them to someone that knows what they are doing and get them done. The quote I got for mine, which included welding all the bolts and making it completely smooth, was like $300-350.

Bumpers for a RR only 300-350, That is as reasonable ive seen or heard of, how far did you have to have them shipped? I like the idea of welding the holes and getting rid of the guards.

Jerseys, i have no idea why the wind down windows only in the Satellites, i didn't know until this thread about them, i to think they look better and it would be the other way around.

I'll post a pic of the current shape of the front bumper since the rear bumper is on the car which is 3 towns away right now

Thanks I've seen some of the nic superchrome stuff but you're right it doesn't have that mirror-esque look to it, I've seen places that do bumpers for around 250 as to whether they're good or not I don't know, but I could weld and grind the bolt down before hand and probably save a few $$$

I didn't know either until I saw it in the video, it's like chrysler just got lazy and decided to just keep fixed windows in,but the windows look much better like this, good thing I made a thread about it eh? - Julius

I spoke to one of the powder coat companies that is a member here and he told me that while close it is not chrome and he reccommended that I not get powder coating in a chrome look alike color.

Now how is that for honesty.
The guy who could make a sale was more interested in me getting the verry best even if that means he did not make a sale.
Well... He sure made a bunch of future sales to me.

If you want you can pm for the name of that company, I'm not sure the boss would be so smart and understanding enough to realize what a great service he did for the company by skipping today's sale for a possable future sale.

I know mine is not.

Yeah i guess it's either going to be rechromed or painted black, like how this one is done except for those god awful flowmasters i can't stand them

Jessipup, are you sure it was a guy you spoke with??? :-D

You cant just fill the holes in the front bumper with weld. The bumper bracket uses the same hole... On the back you can fill them though

You sure know how to make a video! That sounds pretty good, better then the real awful cherry bombs on mine, ive been entertaining the Flow-master exhaust myself, i put these on because they came new in the box with the rest of the parts. I want a low sounding stock sound myself, yours don't sound bad i don't think, Good luck with the sale, looks real good.

Haha it wasn't my car just an example for the painted black bumpers I wish that was my car
