hi i have a stock 318 in my 1972 Plymouth Satellite and i have this edelbrock performer high rise intake manifold and i wanna put a 550 edelbrock carb on it will everything work fine with a stock cam??? right now [not installed] but i have a 750 edelbrock should i not put that on because it's too big?

Go ahead and run your 750, it will tune out just fine. I ran the same intake with a 750 Holly on a stock 318 from 73 to 95 and never had a problem with it. When you do decide to build your 318 bore it to a stock 340 bore so you can take advantage of the 340 parts that are available.

Theoretically you should be able to run the bigger carb without trouble, because theoretically the motor should only get what it asks for.

Carb

go to www.holley.com and enter your info for carb selection. You will find the first carb they recommend is 390 cfm and the largest is 650. The bigger you go the less response you will have. Its a small engine, it will run better and be more responsive with a smaller carb. I would run a 600 vacuum secondary with the yellow or purple springs. Also I would run a dual plane intake, that is a heavy car with normal gears. 318's are a great motor. I saw an article once they took the old 318 2 bbl out of a project car and put it on a dyno. A 110k 1970 motor pulled 310 horse! with a 2 bbl! They love to rev..
