383 4 speed 1968 I.D.

Hello, I have a 1968 January production 383 Roadrunner, original 4 speed according to fender tag. I'm still a bit confused as I've read some eng/trans combos match a shipping number on fender tag and some don't in '68, is there any confirmation of this without having a built sheet?
My 383 and A833 both have a matching number so they originally came together, the trans side stamp and the blocks stamp by oil sender.
The # on the trans pass stamp and block lip by oil sender is -A143712-.

The fender tag is as shown, is there any way to figure out whether the set-up is original.. I have no build sheet

Other question would be, what else in 1968 came with a 383/A833 set up that it could have came from?
Any other numbers worth checking on the actual block for? Not just bolt-on casting #'s i mean.

P.S. my vin # neither relates or matches either of these. But I've read that they normally dont pre-69.

The fender tag indicates the car came with a four speed.

Is your VIN RM21H8A143712? (The fender tag appears to be from a car built at the St. Louis plant RM21H8G)

If yes, then the engine and transmission came with the car.

If that is not your VIN, then the two came from another car.

So are you telling me that all 1968 Mopars came with a vin stamped engine and trans combo? I had been under the impression that Chrysler did not vin sequence blocks until in 1969 and this would not be due to being in the first half of production year for a 1968 Mopar. I may be completely wrong, but that's why i'm asking, thanks for the input!
The engine has an October 1967 build date on it also along with the trans.

VINs on '68s are a controversial and under researched subject.

Yes, some '68 engines and transmissions have VINs and some do not. Some contented that only the 383 and 440 HP cars got VINs.

(anyone have a /6, 318 or 383-2bbl with a VIN stamped on it?)

It does appear that the different plants may have stamped VINs at different times. The STL plant did start early in the year.

It appears this drive train is from an Oct/Nov built car at the Lynch Road plant.

Was your car built at the STL plant? RM21H8G******?

Yes my car was STL built RM21H8G. Built January 10th 1968. Engine and trans around early October of '67 and they match each other.
