Does anyone know for sure if you have to "invert" the passanger side shock tower to get a 426 HEMI? I know the factory did this but is it a must

Thanks Brian

I was able to put one in a 64 Dodge with the Schumacker conversion mounts. I only had to cut off part of the shock stud. I pulled the valve cover many times to adjust the valves.

I've been told that the only reason they inverted the shock tower was so that they could pull the head off with the motor still in the car.

As far as I now the 64-65 B Bodies have the same engine bay. We're running a 65 Hemi Coronet. We do not have inverted shock towers. The inverted shock towers were so you can get the head and valve cover off with out doping the shock stud.
We can get the valve covers off no problem other than we have to drop the shock down thrugh the hole. We've gotten the head of the same way.
Now the one thing I did do is cut a round hole on the stock tower right where the curve is closest to the valve cover. It gives you a little more clearence.

So to answer your question... You should NOT have to replace the shock tower with an inverted one.

Kevin, did you weld up the old hole??Do both sides??I am waiting to get into the chassis shop for some add'l bars,'chute mount and weld the shock hole and move them over. Will still have to drop the shock bolt, but then the new valve covers will fit on:toothy10:

I'm pretty sure all the engine bays fron '62 to '65 were the same:icon_santa:
