I know many prefer electric pumps. I just placed a big order from 440 source and added on one of their high volume mechanical pumps. Will this be good enough for 650 ish hp? It says 8 psi and 80 gph.
We can all speculate, but it comes down to watching a fuel pressure gauge on a full pull in high gear (biggest load and fuel demand).
The rating sounds low to me, but the proof will be in the pudding.
That 8psi rating might be a little conservative, meaning that your carb should probably be regulated to 6-7psi anyway which will afford the pump a little more volume.
The typical assumption for N/A engines is .5 BSFC. At 650hp, your theoretical fuel requirement is 325 lbs/hr or about 55 gph. For me, in the real world, I like to always add 25-30% to that for any efficiency variances, so that puts the requirement at 72gph--too close for comfort 'for me'.
I'd get a better pump (I love 440source, but have had several bad experiences with their ancillary items)..
You've been talking TF270s and T&D rockers...obviously not a "budget build". Don't cut a corner on the fuel system!
