I have recently run across a couple of ads for 440 hp bare blocks for sale. What is the difference between that and a standard block?I thought it was just internals that made it an HP. Am I wrong of is it someone trying to boost the value of a block ? Thanks for any input

No difference. The HP was stamped on the blocks so the guys assembling the engine knew what parts to bolt on the engines.

An HP block might be worth more to someone who is looking to replace the block in a car that originally came with an HP block. The blocks themselves are essentually the same. If the HP block happens to be the correct matching numbers block to your car,it is worth a lot more to you. The HP blocks are a lot more likely to be hurt,as most were driven hard.
