Hello. I have unused Big Block 440Source gear drive. I think 440 source doesn´t sell them anymore, and these were China made? Any thought´s about them?
Is it similar that chinamade Cat, that someone said it´s ok?

I really like the sound of gear drives, but is it worth of sound of putting it to my mild cam 383... I have tried to look information about this, but nothing..is it how noisy?
I know, the Milodon would be the right choice, i got this gear drive almost for free..yes, i know, engine rebuild again would cost Much More:lol:

Not sure on your quality question - but they can be noisy and quite annoying.

OP wants the whine. I'd at least wonder about the ChiCom quality. But with the gear drive, the sound should give a clue before catastrophe.

Let's see, we'll put it on the scale and weigh.... on one side we have the "sound" appeal of a gear drive... on the other side we have possible, probably unlikely though, engine failure.... which one weighs more heavily in your mind ?

Wasn't the "original" gear drive marketed by a company (?) by the name of PETE JACKSON ? Who, as I recall, a partner with HILBORNE, of the Hilborne Injector fame....pioneer of individual port mounted mechanical ram stack fuel injector, of the old "gasser" race car days ? The origional Pete Jackson gear drive was very noisy....to the point that one could hear the car coming from a block away.....not exactly sure what the fascination was???? Not sure they are still in business.....

Thanks for the comments!
Yeah, i like that gear drive sound, but i don´t know yet, when that whining gets annoiyng. Cheap one is easier to throw away and put chain again.. maybe i´ll invest some money to buy that Milodon or Pete Jackson gear set to my 489 stroker, and 383 will go with chain

I have an original Pete Jackson "noisy" gear drive in a 400 that was used in a drag car, with and without mufflers.....(never a full stock exhaust). I would never know it was in there....may as well be a chain. Cam timing was rock solid though lol.

I believe that they used straight cut gears or was it helical or herringbone pattern. Pete Jackson partnered with Stu Hillborn (ram stack port fuel injectors).....not sure if they're still in business....
