hey guys i need some help on my six pack set up. ineed to know what is a good spark plug to run on my stock 440. i just put a six pack on it and it seems to do fine for the first 30min of driving then it runs rich and soaks the plugs. im running autolight 86s should i change them or run something hotter? any help will be greatly appreciated

How do you know it's running rich and soaking the best plugs? Just curious since I've been for the longest time trying to diagnose the same problem.

Maybe its not the plugs, but the Six Pack needs to be dialed in better?

Are you sure your float needles aren't bypassing ? I have choke issues if I don't kick it off right away it tends to foul.

86's are fairly hot. you have a tune up problem with the carbs/ignition, maybe too much fuel pressure, floats too high, bad power valve, etc, etc. how much cam? what kind of exhaust? whats been done to the carbs? doubt a plug change will save you.

I concur. Sounds like the choke pull off isn't adjusted right, float levels are too high, or something got past the filter into the needle/seat. The 86 Autolites should be fine. I run the RJ12YC Champions, which are a little cooler heat range on my cross ram. Warm the car up and check the choke blade to insure that it is fully opening. Then pull the site plug on each carburetor and make sure that the float levels are right at the bottom of the site plug hole while idling. Good luck.

well its all stock with a 3'' flowmaster exhaust and i just started messing with the six pack set up so it might need to be tuned in better. and the power valve is new as is the rest of the set up i rebuilt with all new parts like throttle plates and new fuel bowls. so what else do you guys think could be the cause of it? could it be to much fuel pressure or timing maybe?

What carb parts did you rebuild it with? What main jets? Powervalve? Accl Pump cam? Pump squirter?

Factory Six Pack center carb set-up:
Stock main jets =64
Power valve = 6.5
Pump cam = white
Pump squirter = 31

Secondary diaphragm spring = yellow

i used all rebuild parts from holly i just called them up told them what i needed and they shipped it. so my guess is stock parts.

Put a few rags under the site holes just in case, if everything is ok it should be level with the bottom of the site holes or just dribbling out while idling, to much pressure, stuck float, bad or badly adjusted needle and seat can make gas come out.
After warmed up, shut of engine and take the site plugs off, if gas pours out something is wrong.

The float opens and closes the needle and seat to keep the fuel level at a certain level (bottom of sight plug).
Many many years ago I old timer told me a carb is just like a toilet tank, and it is.
