I'm trying to build a nice driver.I have a 68 440 being rebuilt. The body is stripped and repaired.I removed all of the undercoating and would like some opinions on what to do next.Should I neatly undercoat the wheel wells and prime and paint the underbody.Has any one used monster transmission? I can get mine rebuilt locally but is a 318 push button strong enough to handle a 500hp. 440.What about Legendary interiors-I'd have to come out of retirement to afford them.I wanted to get rid of my split bench and put in buckets.I don't care about original-has anyone used other seats or am I looking for more trouble than it's worth? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Welcome...........

You've got a great car to start with.... The 440 will nestle right in just fine... Your 318 trans will not bolt up to a big block engine. If you want to maintain the push buttons, (recommended), you will need to locate a 62-65 cable shift trans for a big block. You can always use a later trans with a floor shift.

Legendary interiors are amoung the best out there. Easy to install yourself with a minumum of tools. Leave the covers unpackaged for a few days in a warm place, sunshine is best. I kinda like the split bench with the arm rest, but thats just me. A local trim shop can likely stitch together a nice interior for you but it will probably cost just as much and a unoriginal interior will affect the value of your finished car.

Good luck with your project and post some pictures.....

Legendary and monster transmissions

I definitly agree! You get what you pay for.... I have had nothing but good luck with legendary. I couldn't tell you about monster Tanny's.

Welcome to the site..

I think that maybe I'll go with the split bench that's in the car.Legendary quoted me $600 for shop time just to sandblast a pair of bucket cores they had in stock. The total price for the 2 bucket seats was $2700.I think I'll do my bench myself and spend the difference on gas or tires.Blue fury says the 318 trans. willnot bolt up to a 440.Thanks for that info.Keisler makes a 4 spd. auto.I like new when it comes to motor trans rearend.Don't want to put junk in the car.4spd. versus 3pd. auto. What do you think.P.S-I really like the pushbutton so I'm really going to have a tough time deciding which way to go

Sounds like they may be trying to take you to the bank on that one Joel. $600 bucks just to blast them???? Ouch! I don't think it would be too much of an issue to purchase a decent set of seat cores and have them locally blasted and painted for that price. Another $300-350 for the covers from legendary, and couple hundred for the seat foam. The quote I have to recover both my roadrunner bucket seats is about $250 total..To put that all together for kind of a ball park $1,400-$1,500 bucks or there abouts.

tranny shouldnt be a problem with that much hp.
legendary as everyone said is top notch.
i like the painted underside as well . my 64 aluminum savoy had no undercoating just bo9dy color.
welcome aboard.

Thanks for the welcome.Could you go into a little more detail ? I think the inside top of fenders is done with seam sealer(panels are only spot welded)Than a heavy undercoat is applied. Is your whole wheelwell undercoated?

Thanks

Welcome, Joel. If you do decide to go with a later than '65 tranny, Imperial Services can help you with a conversion to use your pushbutton shifter. You are correct in wanting to use them - pushbuttons are cool. Here's a link to their website:
