I got a used C500 trunklid emblem off this forum(Thanx Mark!) I have the trim ring,The base that bolts to the trunk, but am missing the plastic insert which says Coronet 500. How does this thing assemble ? From the pieces I have, it looks like there has to be a clip holding the outer ring to the base. Anybody had one apart ? Thanx.DK

once the plastic is in the trim ring, the base should snap into ring. if the base goes in the ring and falls right out, the ring is no good .... it will be really tight ...

The plate was swedged after the madallion was inserted! you might get lucky and do it again,be carefull it's pot metal also maybe use a little epoxy.

Hi DK. I had the same problem when I looked for a used 500 emblem for my car. I hope to someday be able to get a hold of one of the repop's... There high but nice..and much cheaper then an NOS original.

Heres what I did. Like you, I located a used ring and mount plate. then found a 440 plastic emblem, condition not important. (It's a plastic emblem that fits into the chrome ring). I then found a photo of an original 500 emblem and photo shopped it to as close to the original size as I could.... then printed it onto a sheet of water transfer decal paper, (avaliable on line at about $10.00 a package). I then sprayed 3 coats of Krylon crystal clear over the sheet and let it dry for a day. Then... cut the emblem out, just a little oversize, and transfered it to the 440 plastic emblem. Once fully dry I inserted it into the chrome ring and attached the mounting disc in its original position using JB WELD two part epoxy glue and let it dry for 48 hours. Then... three more coats of crystal clear over the entire emblem to seal it.

It's been on my car for almost two years now and no one has caught it. I noticed it is starting to fade a little, (The Alabama sun can be brutal), so perhaps it's time to go for the repop... or redo it.

It depends on what you have to pay for the needed parts but I estimate I have around $45.00 in the emblem.

I thought about making and emblem as well, does anyone know where I can find a ring that I won't have to mortage my house for?

You could turn one up out of alloy on the lathe, then polish it......just a thought.

here;s my 500 repro medallion. you have to be real careful when tightening it down.orelse it pops out of the 2 retaining tabs.

thats correct i had to use epoxy on mine i've seen the the inserts on ebay for sale for about 135.00 bucks.

I HAD TO SILICONE MINE AFTER THE CHEAP REPRO ONE POPPED OUT OF THE SWEDGE.
the silicone worked good also and acts like a gasket to support it on the trunk when you tighten it down.

Good ideas on this thread. I like Blue Fury`s plan. I think I know a print shop that does vinyl/decals ,so I will have them pound a few out so I got spares. That damn 500 trim is ugly to buy. I shouldhave waited for a postcar, but I`d be really old then. Thanx guys, keep the ideas coming for all who ask.

Sounds like I'm missing a part still, I have the outer ring and the plastic insert but nothing to snap that into. Guess I'll have to come up with something. Thanks.

Bill, If you will send me a good, clear foto I can use @ the decal place,I think I have a spare base that srews down to the trunk you can have for the freight cost. It`s for a C-440,but likely the same. Don. :headbang:
