Hi all, I re-doing a 66 Belvedere 2. the car was original 318/904 but came with a 383 (I rebuilt) and a rebuilt 727 for a BB. I have access to a 883 4 spd trans. and Im just curious as to how much the conversion would entail. A few questions I have are,
1. Do I need to weld a hump to the trans. tunnel for clearance?

Sorry, kinda new here,
2. How much trouble is it to change the pedal assy?
3. are there any other Mods that I would have to do? I know driveline, clutch linkage etc. but are there rear end mods or any unforseen mods that would need to be done?

#1. Yes
#2. Finding the petal assembly
#3. You have to weld a bracket to the driver's side frame rail for the Z bar.

If you have a column auto now, to look correct you'd need a manual or floor shift column. Also, yes you have to weld/bond a hump to the floor and cut the hole out of it for the shifter and shifter assembly. Make sure you know which bellhousing you are using to match your clutch and flywheel to it as well as the front bearing retainer size on the trans. There were two retainer sizes used then, big and small. Pilot busing will be an issue if the crank on the engine wasn't drilled for it and the input shaft binds up. You can always shorten the shaft and use a bearing type from a newer Dakota if the crank wasn't final drilled to size for an input shaft bushing.

I know other companies may have this stuff too, but doesn't brewer transmissions have all the stuff you should need for this conversion? Including the new hump?

if your going to go through all the motions might as well go at least 5 speed with hyd. clutch. you'll end up with better drivability [depending your planned usage} Just finished putting a zf 6sp. in 66 and didn't have to touch the tunnel other than cutting hole for shifter. Bell housing was the big obstacle, made our own which most people can't/won't do, but there's easier 5sp. options out there!
