66 plymouth belvedere station wagon tailgate?

what holds the crank mechanism to tailgate? mines real loose and without disassembling everything
wondering easy fix.
can't see it with the window cranks in place

Have you removed the metal cover from the interior side of the tailgate in order to access the mechanism? I attached a picture of the tailgate from the '66 parts catalog.
