How does the "z" shaped tabs attach to the fenders of the car? We know it is riveted to the actual grill surround. Is it a nut or a push-in item that attaches surround to the car? If its a nut how do you get to it? Ours are all rusted or damaged, too hard to tell. Do they make replacement tabs and hardware? Do I need a special tool to remove and reinstall surround? Thanks, Mike

I think it's a nut, and you have to use a real long 1/4 extension with your arm up in the wheel well. 3/8 MIGHT fit.
It sucks real bad.

I believe mine were riveted on both sides. I ended up just drilling the rivet at the surround and when I go to reinstall I will use a small screw instead.

I don't think they are available to replace but if you spend about 5 minutes with a piece of sheet metal and a vice you can make your own.

just pulled mine apart about a month ago, rivets on both sides.i will resassemble with screws or rivets depending on which is easyest.
