I had a guy tell me my car had a Ford 9 inch rear end yesterday. Not sure if it was just some remnants of blue paint, but I know some have done this. Can anyone identify what I have?

I am not sure how much gets swapped normally when this is done. Just the differential housing and rear end gears or the axles, brakes and everything.

I am getting ready to replace a broken left hand wheel stud on the left rear and that would seem odd for a complete Ford swap. I don't know if I am buying a Ford stud and wheel bearing, Mopar stud and wheel bearing or what?

The casting number 2070742 on mine makes me think it is an original 8 3/4 inch housing and correct for the year. It may even be original to the car, in spite of the blue paint.

I think Chrysler is the only one that did left hand studs. The xxxx742 designation on the driver side of your differential marks it as a Chrysler 8 3/4.

It's obviously an 8 3/4, just by the shape.

Funny thing is I was placing my rear fender lip chrome yesterday and had to remove the back tires to do so. This gave me a good view of the rearend. Called my wife over with pen and paper to record the numbers. The exact numbers you stated are the same on my 67 GTX

Thanks for all the responses. I went back to educate the guy. I also found out you can't put a deep socket on the two bottom bolts of a nine inch Ford center. That is one way they are identified.
