I have either stumbled upon something really strange or something that is already known by others.
I’ve noticed a difference in the shape of the lever arm of the brake pedals between a 68 Satellite and my 70 Chargers.
A FBBO member has trusted me with this car:

This is a beautiful and well constructed 68 Plymouth. He isn’t happy with how close the brake pedal sits to the accelerator pedal.

Clearly an automatic. The space between the two is 1 1/4”.
My car has 2” of space.

These are reproduction pedals that came with the 5 Speed manual kit from SST.
Okay, so maybe the manual transmission cars could be a bit different but why would they shift the pedal to the left where it could crowd space with the clutch pedal?

Maybe the reproduction pedal is close but not exact?

It gets weirder.

This is the pedal in Jigsaw, my beater 70 Charger.

There is 3 1/8” in between here.

On Jigsaw, notice the flat bar turns 90 degrees then back? First time I've noticed that on a 70... Check the original pedal from Ginger if you still have it.... On E bodies that showed up around 73-74... The reason they did it? So the pedal bends in a collision, hopefully before your ankle snaps...

I have two other pedals from ‘70 B body cars. The black one is from my red car. The pad has been cut to allow a manual trans small pedal pad to fit. The other pedal is from a 70 GTX from FBBO member Darius.

With one laid on top of the other, the modified one has a pedal pad that is over to the right by about 1/2”.

These are both from automatic equipped cars of the same year.
I know that this isn’t an exciting topic. One may find macrame more interesting but I found it strange.
My friend wants more room between the gas and brake.
I may swap over this GTX pedal.

Now with the loose electrical tape moved.

No bend in the lever arm of any of the B body pedals I have here.
I’ve seen the twist in those levers before.

Those are from a couple of A body cars I parted out.

Man… I need more light than ever before. The things that I can do in sunlight are difficult to do indoors.

By chance did someone change the drivers floor pan and drilled the gas pedal holes in the wrong place.
I can take a picture of my 68 in the morning if you would like.
In your picture it does look to close to each other.
Definitely one of those things that make you say hmmmmm.

Both Chargers have original floor pans. The Plymouth looks original too. I didn’t think of the gas pedal mounts being the variable.

The angle of the pedal on the Plymouth looks more to the left, I'll admit. I did not notice that. I'd have to put a level on the top edge to see if it is out of level. That is a contributing factor but I don't think is the entire reason for the difference. The 1 inch difference between Jigsaw and Ginger is an odd one too.

Welcome to getting old buddy. One of the reasons I upgraded to my Optrel welding helmet.

The car in question is mine. Thanks everyone for your input!

I agree I think it's the gas pedal since there's less of the rod linkage visible underneath. I hadn't noticed that before. The brake pedal in person also seems clocked a bit counter-clockwise, with that angle making one corner of the brake pedal a bit closer.

I did not notice the horizontal section of the throttle lever. That is an immediate clue as to what may be the reason!
