Hey guys, i have a 68 charger that needs the rear frame rails replaced, seems to be the thing to do on these cars! My question is... will a 66 Coronet frame rail assembly fit in the 68 charger? if you look up rear frame rails individually they pop up matching 66-70 charger/coronet/belvedere/Satelite/GTX.
What i would like to do is have the whole frame rail assembly (i.e frame rails, cross member, and leaf spring perches) cut out of the coronet as a whole and install under a 68 Charger. is it possible? any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks:confused5:

Is it possible...yes anything is possible with the right amount of fabrication, cutting and welding etc. I would recommend against this however i'll defer to the more senior guys on this forum. I had a set welded in my 69 charger and the one thing you have to remember is that depending on the age of the car etc, its likely not going to fight perfectly and going to require a lot of massaging. If this were my project I would just buy the frame rails and weld them. Out of curiousity, why do you want to do this, is your coronet completely rotted out to the point it needs all of this?

The 66-70 rear frame is basically the same rail except for the gas tank mounting. 66-7 the tank has one strap that goes between the rails thus the rails have a hole for the strap. 68-70 has 2 straps that goes to the bracing on the trunk floor.
The 66-7 left frame also has a hole for the tank venting tube that 68-70 does not have.

yeah my Charger rear is rotted away! Found a guy with a 66 Coronet that has the whole assembly cut and ready to go. Framerails, crossmembers, and leafspring perches all together. so I was hoping to take that whole assembly and replace mine.

As long as the one you found is solid, I would grab it. Any original metal is better than the best repoped stuff made now.

Yeah its solid! just threw me for a loop! if you look up repoped rails. the full rear rails are for only 68-70 but the cut in rails are for 66-70 B-body. If this frame would work, that would save me over $1000.00 in parts. I just dont want to spend $400.00 and realize it was a waste of time!Moparmarks says its the same set-up just different holes drilled. So i think i will be good! do i gamble??

Mark would know. If he says it will work, I would go for it. I did the same thing you want to do on my Charger, and it went very smoothly. Although I used the same model year parts.
