68 Charger remote mirror threads too short

I push the remote mirror knob through the door and upper pad and the threads aren't long enough the get the retainer on. Even if I took the black push nut off I wouldn't have enough threads and the cable holders hit the back side of the panel when you try to move the mirror. So, the push nut needs to stay on. Do the Chargers have their own mirror? All the remote mirrors I've seen are for B bodies in general. Has anybody run across this problem?

What chrome nut do you have? As I recall it has a shank that sits into the hole and will grab the threads.
