68 Plymouth GTX horizontal stripe colors?

My 68 GTX is dark blue metallic from the factory with a blue horizontal strip on the side of the car? Is the blue strip uncommon or is this strip the least popular? I've looked at many restored 68 GTX's and I'm yet to see one with a blue horizontal strip. Any suggestions or photos would be great. I'm not sure how a blue car with a blue strip will look like. I've been an owner of a 68 GTX for 43 years and have been observing them longer. I've never seen a blue with a blue stripe. Seems to me a white stripe would be more appropriate IMHO. You do what suits you best. Good luck

I saw a white with a light blue stripe in mopar muscle magazine years back. Never seen a dark blue with it.

Thanks for the info. Who ever ordered this car from factory must have really loved blue is all I know. Everything in the car is blue, door panels, over head lining,dash, carpet, seats and door trim was blue. Blue everywhere. I'll keep you posted with the restoration project. I almost want to keep the car as original I can but it will be near impossible being I don't have the original engine for the car. I was thinking putting disk breaks, classic Cragar rims, and a stock engine in the car. I don't need 600hp to enjoy the car. What are you recommendations? I may need help verifying the interior of the car to make sure its matching to the car. Could you help with that?

Thanks for the info. Can I see your ride? Were you the original owner of your GTX? I know almost everything about 68 Roadrunners being that I had one a few years back but I know little about the GTX. This is why I'm asking so many questions about the car. I'm getting really fond of this car and plan to have it for a long long time.

If you don't need big hp I would recommend trying to find a stock 440 Mag 375 hp which is what came with the car - either that or a 426 Hemi (which was much more rare). You could buy a crate engine for it already to go if you have the $$.

i have cragar classics on mine and they really look sharp. I just put disc breaks in the front and have the drums still in the rear. Mine is the dark burgundy with white stripes. I changed mine over to a six pack years ago and just recently stroked the engine to 494 cid, 555 hp, 600 lbs torque on the dyno.

Ill send end you pics of the car when I get it back from the painter. I'm having it painted a black Garnett pearl with is a pearl burgundy that's very deep and translucent. I'm the second owner of the car - bought it when it was 3-4 years old.

Ask me anything you like - I may not know the answer but someone on here will know. You have an awesome car there and with a little tlc she'll regain her former beauty. If you want to see more on men search Tired Warrior and it will show old pics of the car after being stored for 35 years - and tells the story. Now nearly complete restoration. Should be done this month.

I look forward to seeing photos of your car. I'm very excited about my car and look forward getting it back on the road. My intentions for my ride is to drive and enjoy it. I'm not interested in making it a museum piece. Its going to be sweet and clean but I don't' intend taking every nut and bolt off the car. Maybe later down the years I'll do that but not now. 375hp would be plenty for me. I feel if I had any more I may be dangerous....lol.

Congrats on scoring your new GTX! It looks like a cool ride. They're great cars. I can't say that I've ever seen dark blue with light blue stripes, but I bet it will look cool. You don't see too many GTXs as it is, but when you do, most have white or black stripes. I think the blue stripes will definitely set it apart. After reading your post I looked around a bit online at pics and found the one below. I know the car is a lighter blue than yours, but I even like that with the light blue stripes... Either way, congratulations again. Have fun with your build!
