SOLD '69 440 HP engine

1969 440 HP engine. Missing cam, lifters, pushrods, oil pump and drive, distributor, balancer and carb.
Removed from a '69 Charger 500. Rebuilt in late '70's and bored .030 over with a 10/10 crank. Was told it has approximately 2k miles on rebuild. Car was totaled shortly after rebuild and engine has been sitting since. Cylinders have good cross hatch and no ridge. 906 Heads in good condition with what looks like factory dual springs. Factory HP manifolds. Valve covers are clean on the inside. I have removed 1 main cap and a rod cap and crank journals look good. Can provide additional photos upon request. Located in the Houston,TX area 77379.

Is there a vin stamped on it? Is the car it came from destroyed? An aero car engine could be desirable to the owner of said car. Good luck either way I just like trying to reunite cars like that back together if possible.

OP said car was totaled shortly after rebuilding the motor in the late 70’s

I know they said that but how many times do cars pop back up? I’ve seen it. I just try to be optimistic that’s all.

Same question: Is there an XX29______ VIN stamped on the block? The head casting date appears to be post-500 production range. A 500 guy might want this just to have, even though the car might be gone.

I’ve got a friend who is looking for a 440 for his Charger. He’ll pm you. He lives close enough to drive down and pick it up. Shipping a complete engine would be expensive and a lot of trouble on your part as well. Maybe you can work something out.

The engine is sold pending receipt of payment. I will let the buyer know about your request and will leave it up to him to share the number. I have always been reluctant to share numbers online, guess I have never understood the purpose unless you own a car you are trying to match an engine to or vice versa. I will say the last 3# are 023. BTW the car was definitely totaled and crushed. PO had a polaroid of the block of metal after crushing.

One of the purposes is that people are still trying to put together info on how many 500's there were and what their fate, survival rate, etc. If the car is gone what could you possibly imagine as the risk in sharing the VIN stamp on the block?

There is at least one XX29___023 car VIN known, but the fate of the car is not publicly known (at least to me, who casually keeps tabs on Charger 500's). You can help with the 500 puzzle and also assure the car is not bogusly recreated, or at least not created as a numbers-matching car by sharing a picture of the VIN stamp on the block.
