Can someone direct me to a diagram, drawing or picture showing the correct factory black out locations behind the grill openings?

Originally they were shot by a guy down in a pit as the car past over him, so the spray would have been at a 45* angle up. I just make sure you cant see any of the lighter paint when looking through the grill area.

they sometimes did a sloppy job, they did dozens of cars a day, I lay on the floor and spray up, don't be too neat if you want a restored look

Yep, no masking and just a blast of black to make sure no body color was seen through the grille. However, dark colored cars did not get blacked out.
Here is how I did my 69 RR. Not the best pics for that detail but you get the idea. Also the latch tray vertical brace was blacked out.

I agree with the comments made here. Nothing fancy done to apply. Just scuff the areas a bit and hit it with a rattle can. Here are some pictures of my Bee right after application. Hope this helps.
