I see similar threads but wanted opinions. I have manual drum/drum brakes on my Coronet. This was originally a 318 but was upgraded to a 383 with performance parts but not the brakes. It had a long weekend driving for 3 days solid at an event this weekend just gone and the brakes were ineffective by the end of it. I have picked up a Scarebird 'kit' which uses 73 Fury discs (which I don't have in the kit), and some rebuilt Chevy calipers. I suspect I have over paid for this but it was already over here in the UK and local to me. I would also like to add a servo (booster) but not sure what I would need.

Are there any opinions on that kit (I think I have the budget version but with Raybestos lines and pads and new (decent) wheel bearings)? I'm just looking to create reliable brakes that are up to modern driving without locking up all the time.

What servo (booster) should I be looking for? I don't want the pedal to sit higher than it does now as some kits suggest as I'm tall and its already hard to hit square on. Not sure what I need and wanted independent opinions?

Thanks!

Sorry Ginja,.... I don't know much about that kit. I went with a kit from a company here in the states called Doctor Diff. Wish I could provide you more information, but just didn't want you to think people were ignoring your question. I unfortunately just don't have any information to offer on a "Scarebird" kit. My brakes are manual too, so I don't have anything to offer on brake boosters.

That's no problem, thanks for your reply. What I believe I have is something along these lines (https://scarebird.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=64&product_id=158) with that bracket, caliper and bolts, hoses and also pads and bearings. It all looks pretty strong, just surprised to find it listed at that cost (which in no way represents what it would cost including shipping and taxes for me!)

Scarebird has been around for a while, but I have not used any of their brake kits. If it was my car I would install the kit and try it with out a booster. I would remove the residual pressure valve from the front circuit of the master and try it. If it works okay for you then get a disc master and go cruising. You should also use an adjustable proportionig valve in the rear circuit. The bore in your drum master is 1 inch. If you can't live with manual brakes, I would email dr. diff about a booster set up. If you do go manual make sure you get a disc master that has a groove in the piston for the pushrod retaining ring. Very important.

Thank you, that is good advice, I will go down this route.
