I recently posted a subject of switching to electronic ignition but need to clarify something. I currently have no harnesses, regulator or alternator. I want to stick with the look of the round back alternator. By doing so I would purchase a 2 field wire alternator and a 2 field wire regulator through yearone. https://www.yearone.com/Product/chrysler-b-body/pm60 By doing so it seems like it would make sense to purchase a 1970 engine wire harness and just follow the schematic. Does this sound correct? Will a 70 harness plug into the bulkhead of a 69 with no butchering needed?

YearOne sells 69 wiring harnesses modified for electronic ignition.

Yep you are correct they do sell the modified harness that you are talking about. But a member on here recently reported having a problem with his and ended up putting the old one back on and it worked fine. This is also what yearone suggest.
Reproduction harness requires the use of the 1970-and-later style alternator and electronic voltage regulator. If using an aftermarket electronic ignition system, our manufacturer suggests that a reproduction harness for point ignition would be a better starting point. Use this harness for plug & play termination of a Chrysler electronic ignition system.

You have me curious as well. I went to an electronic ignition just recently during a restoration. Should I have purchased something g special for the wiring harness? I just bought the regular 68 engine harness from year one. Like Texasbee I'm wondering if I needed something modified for the electronic ignition. The motor works fine - but the gauges don't perform I.e. Tac as they should. Car is still under restoration so I don't know all the details except that.

For or texasbee and I what do you all think?

I just bought the 68 points harness from Mrmopar. It is perfect if you have points. If you have the electronic Chrysler module you need that connector only found on the electronic harness. You will also need the dual field connectors for the alternator. You will also need the extra wire the dual ballast resistor. You will also need the electronic voltage regulator connector. I believe that's the engine compartment electronic ignition wire set. Part number HU197B

here is a link http://www.mrmoparts.net/harness-engine-69-b-body-383-440-except-6-pack/
This is the points link http://www.mrmoparts.net/harness-engine-68-b-body-383-440/

If you get the points link you will not have the connectors to hook up the Chrysler voltage regulator or electronic control module.
Now if you are not using the Chrysler items you will need to get a electronic voltage regulator that plugs in to the points harness and you will have to run separate wires if you decide to go MSD or similar setup...

Don't want to seem numb but - in my case I have a 68 440 that I switched over to electronic ignition MSD Ready to Run to be exact. The motor runs fine - but in order to have the reconditioned gauges to work right i need a different wiring harness than what I purchased fro year one? I just bought an engine wiring harness for a 68 440 period. Motor works fine - gauges aren't responding properly.

pls advise - and thank you for your help!

So back to my question. If I am switching over to 70 style ignition with a 70 wire harnesses, will the 70 style be a plug and play for a 69 bulkhead?
I know where I can buy harnesses, I am trying to prevent butchering of a new one.
GetX'D, there is some type of modification done to the tac for electronic ignition per another member.
hunt2elk... The harness is the same for points or electronic tach. You just need to have the tach updated, the connections will be the same. Someone like Redline or Instrument Specialties can do this for you

You can also do the tach update yourself. 4 wires to remove the old board then install the new board.
I did my own and I am adequate at best with a soldering iron.
As for the bulkhead connection I'm quite certain 68-70 would be the same.

Try replacing the voltage limiter on the instrument circuit board with a solid state unit from RT Engineering.
