Hi all

Bit of a long shot I guess - relatively small part on a relatively rare (ok, just uncommon :icon_rolleyes:) car....

Just received an order we placed with Year One, including a pair of 'Lower Dash Trim' pieces (their part # LDT68).
They have a 'smooth' and a 'textured' option on the website, so we chose the smooth as that's what our original parts are.

Trouble is, the parts we received are definitely textured. You can just about see the finish in the pics below (we left the part in the bag in case we had to return it).

They say:

"I have issued you a refund for these parts you received. The part actually has a pebble grain to it which is not smooth. We do not have and to our knowledge there is not a smooth part like you need available."

Nice that they've admitted (in a round-about way) their catalog/website is wrong, but it doesnt help us get the parts we need.

Has anyone here seen proper smooth parts available from any other supplier, like the slightly tatty one in the pic?

Thanks!

I'll take that as a 'no' then! :icon_rolleyes:

Have you tried PG Classics? Otherwise you will have to get your parts striped and vacuum metalized then paint the black as it was.

I've owned a whole bunch of 68/69 B-bodies over the years. I cant say for sure, but as far as I can recall, I have never seen a smooth dash piece (that wasn't a plastic overlay).

I can't recognize what the parts you are showing are for. Where do they go?

The new part has a substantially narrower chrome piece compared to the other.

The only smooth parts I have experience with are those that had a wood grain appliqué on them.

Are you sure that the original is not one that was supposed to have the appliqué on it, but was at some point painted instead?

Sorry I could not be of more help.

Thanks for the replies meep-meep & q-ship!

I just looked at PG and they look like they have the same parts as Y.O.

This pic is off their site, but they dont mention smooth or textured, just that they are exactly as the originals..... :protest:

Cant get to our car at the mo, as it's at my brother's 20 miles away with paper & dust sheets over the doors while we respray the engine bay!!

But I found these pics of a GTX that's on ebay at the mo, which show where they go - extreme left & right ends of the dash, directly below the woodgrain finish.

It's not very clear but I reckon the 2nd pic, taken from the driver's seat, shows the finish to be more smooth than textured.

Apart from the texture, I also noticed the width of the 'chrome' piece is a lot narrower than the original.

I dont think our original part has been replaced or modified in any way - we've had it since '85 and I'm 99.9% sure nothing was changed in this area before we got the car.

Also, I just found a pic I took of a mate's 68 Satellite that has A/C. Looks like these parts are replaced with vents on an A/C car :eusa_think:

The pebble textured grain was usually a 70 thing, so my guess is YO and PG (probably where YO gets them from) are geared for the 70 cars. I suggest keeping an eye out for good used or vacuum metalizing yours.
