Looking for a rust free decklid in the central US (I'm in Kansas). Thanks.

The deck lids are slightly different but will fit each year..

I disagree with that statement. According to the Mitchell interchange book '71-74 Road Runners, GTX's and 2-door Satellites used the same interchange number decklid, but the CHRYSLER PART NUMBER changed once during these years ('71-72 is p.n. 3482010 and '73-74 is p.n. 3684491). Maybe that is what the above statement is referring to. It's very common for car manufacturers to change the part numbers of their parts over the years; I don't know why they do it, but I suppose they have their reasons.

book is only half right.
there is a difference,
they will interchange but are not the same thing.
the lock mounts differently 71-2 vs 73-4
also there are spoiler cutouts on early 71 lids
that later lids do not have.
i know someone selling a 71 lid
if you are interested hit me with a pm and i will foward his contact info to you

Well your wrong they are slightly different. 71 and VERY Early 72 have cut-outs for spoilers. 72 has no cut-outs. 73-4 have NO Cut outs and a completely different lock assembly. So yes there is THREE different deck lids for the 4 years and all will fit. All identified easily when side by side.

Correct. I've owned a couple early 72's that had the cutouts.
73-4 have a larger lock cylinder.
The same holds true with Chargers.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm not too proud to admit I was misinformed. It sounds like '73 and '74 decklids were identical, but the '71 and '72 were slightly different even though they will all interchange (fit in the opening with the bolts in the same places). I guess interchange manuals are mainly about what will INTERCHANGE and not necessarily about which parts are exactly the same (unless you go by the factory part numbers provided).

I have a '73 Road Runner, so in lieu of all this information finding a '73-74 style decklid is my preference.

Also the 71-72 vs the 73-74 Charger deck lids also had different indentations for the lock cylinders. The 71-72s had a full circle indentation while the 73-74s had a half circle indentation.
