Het guys, I've been looking for a front bumper and brackets for my 73 since I bought it, Struck out at Garlits, Webster and Zepherhills. Anyway, I finally found a 71 that wasn't bent or rusted through for a decent price.

Every thing I can find says using a 71/72 bumper on a 73/74 will move it closer to the fenders, and eliminate the use of the filler parts.

What I found is that the brackets won't go all the way back for the bolt holes to line up on the frame, and the bumper is actually out farther from the fenders than a 73 bumper should be. The donor car was not wrecked, and neither is my 73. The 71 brackets bend is "too early" and hits on the frame horn before the bolt holes line up.

What gives? Before I start cutting and welding, maybe someone can enlighten me, or swap for/sell cheap a set of 73/74 brackets.

Thanks as always.

Rear bumpers and brackets will interchange, but the fronts are different. In 73 the entire front frame was changed to the isolated suspension. Different front bumper brackets. Best bet is to re drill 73-74 brackets to move the bumper rearward.

I went back and looked again, and you're right, the brackets sit about 1.5 inches lower than the frame.
Guess I'll need to get some 73/4 brackets.

It would be nice if someone offered these in aluminum, since the mid 70s B-bods are so nose heavy. Painted black or body color, only your hairdresser would know for sure...
