Converting column shift 72 road runner to factory console and shifter does not line up correctly with the detentes on the transmission. When placing the car in park the transmission shift lever hits the transmission safety plug. Do I need to change the transmission shifft lever and if so which part number shold I use.

I know there are two different brackets that mount to the bottom of the trans and have the lower pivot bushing.

One has a centered hole and is for 66-70 cars.

The other has an offset hole and is for 71-74 cars.

I don't know if that's the issue, but thought I'd share.

Do you know which one you have?

IIRC there's also one that has the bend in a different spot.

Obvious questions, but I assume you used the proper brackets for the console and they are in the right locations? I also assume you used all of the linkage and brackets from a correct donor car?

I also believe that there is a different lever on the trans between the column and console shifters, but I couldn't tell you the difference or part numbers off hand.

Thanks... I will have to go look at the lever. There were a lot of incorrect parts on the car when I bought it so there is a pretty good chance they put the 66-70 part on it.

I have all the correct parts from the donor car. Everything is positioned correctly based the pieces cut from the donor with the mounting brackets.

70 e-body parts do not interchange correctly or mix with some of the 71-74 E & B-Body console automatic parts, maybe that is what happened. If you suppy pics of what you have we should be able to help you figure it out. Part number for the lever is 2801828 and here is a pic, if you need one i have them available PM me

Actually there are two brackets that mount to the tranny. One for 904 and one 727. Same with the lower rod, 904 and 727. Same for 71-4B and 70-4E body.
