72 Charger Radio Nuts

I've searched and searched the site and can't find an answer so I hope this is simple for someone. I finally got my original radio working and I'm ready to install but I don't have the nut for the volume post. I have the bracket for the back which holds it in OK but it's a little too loose for my liking.

Tried every 1/2" fine thread at two honest to goodness hardware stores without luck. I thought it was a 1/2 20 but that only fits for the first 2 treads. There's no damage to the threads so I know its not that.

Does anyone know what the nut specs are? Can't find anything in my chassis manual or other documents I have.

Please no nut jokes, I'm frustrated enough.

I know your pain ,I looked and looked there a special nut and you can't get them at a hardware store. I gave up and cut the dash and installed a c/d player ,I though most cars should be the same no I grabbed radio nuts from anything I could nothing fit . I would ask nicely to the guys selling radios if they would sell the nuts,

Your volume knob on your radio is a potentiometer, and any electronics supply shop should have them for your car, rated by the post diameter and thread, they are also called panel nuts. If you cant find them locally, try this place, you will need to know the diameter of the volume knob post and thread count, or which ever knob, and they may have them. If they don't have them, you can check with Fastenal which may be able to get them, also, if you don't know the thread, take the one you have to local ACE hardware they have a thread board, and you can check what the thread count is. Also, originals were thicker then regular panel nuts, so you may only be able to find those at a salvage yard if there are still any old radios around. Not sure if 72 is the same as 73, but the post is 1/2 inch, not sure of the thread count.
