Are there any reports of late 72s getting the 3698630 block, or are all 72 400 cars the 3614230. I have a 72 with a 3698630 block but the correct VIN stamp. The car is a 6/16/72 production date, and the block casting date looks to be 2/24/72, but the 2 in 72 is not fully clear so that may not be correct. So I'm wondering if my only explanation is that it is a restamp.

The #3614230 400 Block Was Used From '71-'72 Model Years! The #3698630 400 Block Was Used From '73 Thru '78!

Yeah, that's what I understood also. It just seems odd someone went to all the effort to stamp the wrong block with the VIN for the car. I have restored Corvettes in the past and in that word the engine stamp pad is big thing and a lot of effort goes into understanding and verifying them. I'm back to Mopars now.

Since my last post, a gentleman on another site sent me a picture on his late build 72 RR 400 block, which is known to be correct, and it has the same casting number and casting date as mine. So they did use the 3968630 blocks in late 72 cars. I guess the websites with charts of casting numbers and when they were used need some updating.
