I am in need of a 727 transmission and i found one that is a 66' and up BB 727 trans and i have a 65' 318 SB. So i would need to buy a kit for the shifter and not sure what else, but i was wondering if there was an adapter plate for a 727 BB to a SB. HELP PLEASE:thumbsup:

Would probably be cheaper just to find a 727 SB case and swap the guts....but don't know of an adapter for that.

Or better yet, since you need a transmission, just go whole hog and do the A500 or A518 swap so you can get overdrive.

There is lots of information scattered around the web regarding this swap (I hope to do this next year - I will be looking for an A500 core next summer). Yes there is fabrication involved, but in my opinion its not anything too extreme and nothing the average backyard mechanic cant handle. The reward should be a quantum increase in real-world freeway driveablity.

Here are some links I've found.

What year car? 65? You could find a BB front case (62-65) and swap the guts. That would be the easiest for a 65 and older car. Thats if you want to use your existing converter. However 66 and earlier trans use an odd ball spline converter. This requires a pump and input shaft swap to use currently available converters. A 66 and up trans will require an aftermarket shifter in a pre 66 car. Best to start with a 67-76 (newer converter spline design) trans if the car is 66 or newer.
