I have a '68 Sport Fury (C-Body of course) and my tranny is like a mushy bowl of cereal. It's all there but it doesn't work that great. Am looking at rebuild vs replacement. If it's original I need to rebuild and if not then I can just replace it.

This is my Stamping Number: J2801543 3697174.
The 2801543 matches my year and my stock 383.
The 10,000 day date code tells me a date in '71 which doesn't make sense unless it's a rebuilt transmission.
Lastly the J is the mark I have not figured out at all. Is it an actual factory (not Kokomo) or a rebuild stamp which would make the '71 date make sense?

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

2801543 is the 68 part number for a 383 cu. in. 727 standard duty per Chrysler field service info.
