Could someone tell me what the distance is between the back edge of the roof stripe and the rear edge of the roof on a 73/74 Roadrunner? I need the measurements for the ends and the center of that part of the stripe. I always have put the roof stripe on first and then cued the rest of the stripes off that one, but I would just eyeball the location of the roof stripe. I want to get my placement more accurate this time around. :)

Thanks

If mine looks close enough to what your after Bruzilla, I measured mine both sides and in the middle at 4 1/2 inches.. And no measurement was on the curved area, just on the end of the straight, There is one side view of my car in my photos that you can see how they look, and i know its a Sat but i think you'll agree the roof-lines should be the same. I don't know if mine are prefect as they was put on a real RR, but i see no-ones been hear yet so ill post it and you can be the judge, i seen this this morning but thought one would show up to get you started. I started with my door, because of the handle and mirror locations, i thought it was a good idea, don't know but it is what it is. Good luck, your getting close to the finish line, cool.

I just so happen to have a picture of that very measurement. Tape measure is from just under the window gutter edge to the stripe. 6 3/8" is what i measured. I did a bunch of different spots on the car before it left to the body shop.

Oops!!! I hope he sees this before he does it, I didn't measure mine going down the edge like this, mine just to the edge but i am off regardless... I know yours is the original so its correct, I went by pictures when i put mine on and thought i had to be close. Oh well, im still satisfied with mine anyway.

Don't worry Ron. I'll bet if we checked all the measurements we would find the guys on the line eyeballed them on most of the time and the distances vary. :)

Got that right Bruz and if it was made early on monday it could be 9.5 on one side and 5.9 on the other. Not that's not to say they may have had a few cold ones over the weekend though :angel11:

Thanks bud! i thought you may wait until someone who had one that was done right show up, and idrivemopar , his is original so you have a good handle on it.. I like the way mine look right or wrong, im not about to pay that much money again! lol.. i wasn't going to get them at first..

Although mine are factory original, the driver side is about 1/4 inch off from the passenger side by the quarter glass. Also the 340 numbers on the hood were way off, left side about an inch further back then the right side. Must have been made on a friday! LOL

I guess Bruzilla and jessipup was right. If i were guessing id have thought they would have had some kind of template to put them on, I wonder what would happen if one was bought and they took notice to this and told the dealer they want it right. I don't think its an outrageous question, cars are expensive and buying new you would think everyone would want it right! Just my thoughts on it but cars have been taken back because of simpler things then this would be to correct. I think the only thing they could have done in this situation is bring the price down some. just my 2 cents..

I used to dread when my Dad would buy a new car because I knew it would mean hours and hours of time sitting in chairs at the dealership while the car was in the service department getting things done because they didn't meet my Dad's specs. :) There was no such thing as turn the stereo up for my Dad. :)

lol, yea, There's only one car my dad bought that i can remember that he didn't take back for something and that was a slant 6 Plymouth Valiant.

There's a dealership on the northbound side of RT 22 in Murraysville. It sits on a slight hill, and used to be a Ford/Mercury dealership back in the 70s and 80s. I felt like that was a second home to me. :) My Dad bought a 1969 Mercury convertible, white with a red interior and a 429 in it. Fantastic car, but I swear it felt like we were sitting around that dealership for a week getting that car.

Idrivemopar you said you took a few pictures for reference before you sent the car to the body shop, would you have a picture of the area bettween the top of the roof strobe to where it gos down and curves around to run up to the front, Id like to see how much shows bettween the stripe and the rear seat window looking straight on at it? I hope im describing it correctly.. Thanks.

You mean like this?

Let me know if you need anything else, i took measurements/pictures of the drivers side up to the center of the roof plus the hood buldge.

Thanks bud, No, im good i just wanted to see if i was close and like i said, it is what it is anyway.. I like the looks of mine and cant really see that much to differ.. This picture i think is the closest to a side view, it is at a angle some but im not going to get out of sorts wih that much, besides my car is far from one people take to shows, im happy pretty much with the whole thing.. Good luck getting yours back and on the road, i cant wait to see it all dressed up for that birthday celebration!

Not to make more work for you idrivemopar, but I think it would be great for you to start a new string and post all the pictures you took so the site will have a master reference string for guys wanting to know how to position their stripes. I'm hoping we'll get a Body of Knowledge forum sometime and that would be a great string for it.
