The results of the new fillers, not exactly like the factory but an improvement I can live with since this it is not a museum piece and the rest of the car is not perfect.

The last two pics are from 1987 original grill with the original fillers.

Can the headlamp shift over at all? Have sealed beams gotten bigger since 1973?

This may sound stupid, but Classic does list them as a set but also separately as a right and a left with two different part numbers. Is it possible the new tooling is slightly different per side, and you have them reversed?

I tried to adjust the head lamp main brackets, I even tried fitting the filler over the sealed beams by them selves, they are too small, another 1/4 inch will do the trick. I am stuck.

I decided to writte about this to CI. 2 years waiting for nothing close to expected. Definitelly they look at this point like my existant ones, just with the color difference ( what can be solved with paint ). Just wrotte them they should get deeper and bigger diameter to accept the sealed beams INTO the fillers, aside the flexibility of the material.

I just checked mine and the numbers actually molded into the part are different L/R. Might be worth swapping them around or making sure you have a L/R pair, as opposed to a R/R or L/L.

comparision, OER ( on top ) vs originals... and originals should be shrunk... right ?

simply wrong size opening.

this buyer told deepness is about the same, but, once again, originals should be shrunked too on deepness

I'm wondering if they EVER FIGURED the HEADLIGHTS should fit right into the openings !!!??? so if not the deepness, at least the DIAMETER!!!

Is SO HARD just to be sure, the headlights MUST fit ? being the same size since... EVER ?

A poster on wicharger said he was able to get his on by working the grill shell on from the outermost point first, and then drawing it down towards the center, working it over the headlamp retainers.

Yes you are correct, they are only smaller for the sealed beam opening, right to left, different part numbers? well no matter, one side will not fit the round beam when flipped around. It still will not fit. Thanks for the idea anyway.

Just an update, the poster on wicharger who was having a hard time with his fillers swapped them left to right and they went on as they should. So apparently they do fit.

I think the previous owner painted mine black because every one I've ever seen has been silver.

Mine do not fit left right its the same only flipped over they are too small that is the problem, they did not figure in the chrome ring is what I think.

They are left and right and can't be flipped on without issues. Left must go to left and right to right.

Even the originals will only go on one side and there is a right and left. Are the grilles correct, they are clearly marked LEFT/RIGHT.
