I was looking at my ignition switch plug and realized it had a burn spot on it. There's a bare spot down to the copper on the large blue wire. I have some options and want your opinion which is best. I don't want to take a chance on burning up the harness. One is to repair the wire and assume the male pin in the plug is alright. Two is to replace the switch. Three is to remove the pins if possible and replace the burnt plastic with a good one I have and put heat shrink over bare spot on blue wire. Is there a tool to remove the male contact pins from the plastic plug? I've got the column part way apart but can't get the shaft to pull out far enough to remove the switch. Do I have to remove the entire column? I've marked and slid the coupler off the steering gear shaft. It appears the shifter parts will not let the steering shaft pull out far enough so the ignition switch can clear the locking plate. Suggestions on how to get the shafte to pull out a couple of inches. I'll include a couple of photos of what I have.
Thanks.
Terry

Plastic insulators are not available. Terminals are Molex.

To remove the switch need yo remove the locking wheel which hides a lock pin down a sleeve. Need to remove the sleeve and will be able to remove the lock pin.

Remove the underdash bracket and plastic cover to get room to pull out the harness an plug. That is if you decide to replace the ign switch, which I don think is necesary. If you get the terminal, just replace it and reinstall on same plastic insulator.

To remove the terminal from the plastic there are tools for that.
