Hello Gents,

I got 4 American Racing VN511 Salt Flats that are 17x8. Looking for tire size recommendations. I was thinking of the following...

Front: 225 60R 17
Rear 265 65R 17

Currently the car has 225(8") X15 in the front and 12"x15 in the rear with no fitment issues other than the rear tires stick out a bit.

Fit depends on factors you have not provided or perhaps even know. Depends and how low/high is your car, stock width rear axle or not, wheel backspacing, etc.

Go to Tirerack.com, pull up specs on your proposed new vs existing tires/wheels and you can easily figure this out for yourself.

(Good choice on wheels - I have always liked those!)

I'd love to see pics when you get them on the car.

Car is sitting pretty high i think, all the suspension has been rebuilt, firmfeel sway bars, torsion bars, tubular control arms, P-S-T balljoints links etc... new rear leaf springs... shocks blah blah blah... rear axle width is stock...

Picture is when i first got her 2 years ago, engine/trans are now in so the front dropped a little... not much.

I had 285/40-17 on the back and 255/45-17 in the front of a 73, stock suspension. I have them on a Cuda now. It’s lowered slightly but the 285 is a little short IMO

Just want to point out that a 265 65 17 tire is more of a light truck / SUV size tire (over 30 inches tall). You might want to look at something in a 50-55-60 series range around 28+/- inches tall. Limiting the overall diameter will fit the wheel opening better and make the tire look fatter. With the car's butt that high in the air the fattest tire you can fit on that 8" rim will look best (275 or so).

Your car's altitude looks a lot like my 73

Nice 73 :) your wheel openings are exactly what i am looking for. Both front and back, awesome job man...

So, from what i gather... now thinking of the following...
Front: 225 55/60 - R17
Rear: 275 55/60 - R17
Don't want to go over 275, some claim that is the max on a 17x8 rim... don't want the wheels to come off when i drive like a lunatic. :)

Thanks everyone for the help...

I like the block setup. 2x18?

Well, i just downsized my tires, but more important I choose for the same diameter wheel of approx. 27" back and front. The rims came with the car but the tires were complete out of proportion. Now I have R15 215/70 and 255/60 and standard shocks in front and back and the space between street and wheel weld is now approx. 28". It looks like the car and stance is perfectly balanced.. :bananaweed:

More proportioned to the design of the car R15 215/70 - 255/60. Diameter 27".
