Hello

I need to change just the temp gauge in 74 Rally cluster. This one has the clock so uses Gauge #2985223 which I purchased from Brad's (NOS) hope it works.

My question is before I get started is there an easy way or does the whole cluster really need to be removed? I have a service manual so can do it by the book, however am a little uneasy removing and disturbing wires etc. in a 41 year old car.

Would like your comments if anyone has changed a gauge in one of these without complete removal of the instrument cluster.

Thanks

You're going to have to pull the cluster out. It's not that hard, just make sure you remove the steering column nuts so you can lower it down and out of the way. You also need to pull the radio knobs and the nuts that hold the radio in place.

Be real careful when removing the cluster because the beige plastic on the back is old and fragile, especially the braces for the environmental controls. They are real easy to break.

I would also suggest ordering a set of LED lights and replacing all the light bulbs while you have the cluster out. You'll be glad you did.

after that, remove front woodgrain bezel, lense and back nuts. Gauge leaves the housing from the front.

Pretty much straight up
