74 Runner fuel lines

I put a new mechanical pump in the car and took out the tank cleaned it and got a new 3/8 fuel sender to replace the 5/16 that was in there. I think I might as well change the fuel lines to boot. I see the the line from the sender heads to the rear of the car then loop back to the front along the frame rail. What is the purpose of this? I don't think it has to go back as per factory specs does it? Any tips or tricks as to where to run it or is the same local the best?

Are you planning on running custom lines your self or you going back with lines that are pre-bent to fit your application ?

I figured I would buy the straight lines and do a custom fit running the same area as they are now unless a bet route is available.
