I have a 8 3/4 in my 71 SE and was wondering if anybody knows what it takes to convert over to a dana 60, but the dana 60 is out of my 76 trailduster. So with that being said, will it bolt up with few adjustments, or will there be major fabricating, cutting, welding, etc...??? If anybody has anything that will help, it would be very much appreciated! Thanks very much in advance.

I would say that the spring perch location and the drive shaft would be the major concerns.

Dana 60 in a Trailduster? 4wd? I'm not too familiar with what came in the 4wd packages but usually, the 60 came with the 3/4 ton package and Traildusters didn't come as 3/4 ton. Are you sure you're not looking at a 9 1/4 rear? Anyways, the rear end may be close to the width you need but the spring pads will be on top instead of on the bottom. Also Dana 60 are a bit longer in the nose and the driveshaft may need to be shortened a bit but if you already have a fair amount of slip yoke showing, you may not need to do that.

Leave it alone

Not easy at all in my opinion. Went for the Dana 60 on my build. If you are not making real big power I would not change anything. I spent a ton of time and money to make the change.. Here is the finished project..

Measure up and decide if it's worth the work. Truck housing/axles are different, so they will have to be changed. And installed with the correct jig to get the new ends on.

Hope that helps.

I'm not real sure if it is a 9 1/4 but you guys seem to know alot more about the 4x4 package than I do. And yes I will be making 600+ ponies, so i will need a pretty stout rear end.

Can ya post a pic of the rear you are looking at?

yes, I have to go to where it is cuz I haven't gotten it home yet, give me an hour or two and I'll post it.

Take a pic of the rear cover, hubs and brake drums too.....

Ok so i forgot to mention, it is the shell of a 76 trail duster and everything else is a 76 ramcharger, all the running gear and everything.
