I am building my 67 plymouth, the engine is as follows std bore 440, 10.8 to 1 CR 440 source stealth heads, (ported with mopar template and a flow bench, they are still at the machine shop so I do not have any flow numbers yet) comp 305H cam adjustable roller rockers(1.6). induction is eddy torker 2 with a Holley 850 four cornewr HP carb. Ignition is MSD 6AL-2 with MSD billit dist. headers are hedman street headers. trans is 727 w/"J" converter. the rear is undecided as of yet. I have an offer of a Dana 60 housing (1Ton truck) a set of MW 40 spline axles with a spool and 4.56 gears for 700.00, or should I build the 8 3/4? I have not cut the body and am not sure I want to, the dana stuff is for an A body or so I am told. I guess my question is, is it worth the extra cost to go with the dana or will a well built 8 3/4 live happily behind this combo?

I have a simliar build. 555hp 620ft/lbs tq with an 8 3/4 3.55 and no problems whatsoever. I'm sure it could probably take more.

my old 66 coronet had a nitrous fed big block and an 8.75 with no trouble, I and just trying to decide where to put the money I can do the 8.75 for around a grand and be done but the dana will be like 1500 after all the narrowing and set up. and then will I need to move the springs? I am really leaning toward to 8.75. I know the dana is bulletproof but is it OVERKILL??

The 8.75 will get the job done on that but the question you need to ask yourself is "will I ever step it up?"... if so go with the Dana rather than spend the money twice. Once you get a taste, some's good, more's better and too much is just right....

Get the Dana for 700. That's a deal. If you don't already have a rear axle, it's really a no brainer.

I know that the dana will handle just about ANYTHING I can throw at it and with the fact that it is all Mark Williams stuff all the better. I guess the Dana IS the best alternative.

You could always build a 9.25 - plenty strong and all over the place.

I agree 100%. They are great...probably even underrated. I just spouted Dana cause he seems to already have access to one, but the 9.25 is certainly formidable. Even arguably stronger than the 8 3/4.

I went with a 60 just because i asked what if i wanted more which down the road i will be but then ill decide weather to get a new one from strange with the stronger material but thats way down the road but for now i have my 60 with a locker and 4:10s.

That's right. Cause you know with the Dana, you'll probably never have to worry about it.
