A Song You Can Remember Your Parents Listening To

Mom...church music..in German
Dad....Lawrence Welk

My mom, Ottis Redding 'sitting on the dock of the bay'

American Pie. 1971, I was 5, my dad and I were in a moving van w AM radio movie to New Orleans.

This question sure brings back great memories! My departed mother, born in 1926, had a liking to some of the 60’s rock/pop groups…Beach Boys, Herman’s Hermits, some Elvis tunes, Patsy Cline, Bobby Vinton, etc. She had her collection on 45’s and get them on the stacker and play ‘em loud on the huge stereo my folks had while doing house chores on Saturday’s. My dad, being 10 years older than mom, liked a lot of the big band music of the 40’s/50’s. They had this monster stereo system with FM (not common back then yet) and reel to reel tape player. My dad would record music he liked from the radio. He liked to lay on the living room floor with headphones on, his smokes, ash tray, and a beer or martini for his kick back time. Reminds me I have a few old photos somewhere that would be nice to dig up to recap these old memories. They worked hard and occasionally played hard. Every year they’d have a wild New Years Eve Party at our house with their work friends. I was the bar tender for a few of those gigs and they kept me busy…lol. I was paid pretty well too.

Hmmm,
I remember Ventures, "Walk, dont run", and were we no California types lol. I remember lots of Johnny Cash, and plenty of Marty Robbins too!! My Grandpa on the other hand, would play Jimmie Rodgers on 45's (or were they 78's???) for us, "In the Jailhouse Now".

Dad played guitar in a band in the late 50s into the late 60s.....Johnny and the Thunderbirds. They were based in Ohio.
As a father in the 70s, he'd have jam sessions at the house with friends.
Dad couldn't sing well but would perform "Bony Maroney" while strumming the gee-tarr.
Good times.

Three dog night was big in the house back then. I was old enough to recall it being played. Dad was into a ton of the 50’s rock n roll. Elvis, Jerry L Lewis, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran it goes on and on.
