I have an extra the secondary air door for my Non-AVS Edebrock carb and was thinking to eperiment with getting the goor to ope a little faste by trimming the counterweights a little (actually I'll drill a small hole or two in it). Has anybody else tried this? Is it worth the effort?

It's common on competition carbs to do that. Drill and tap the counter weight that way you can add weight back if it opens too fast....more adjustability
